Religion is a good thing. Scratch that. Religion was a good thing. In times of hatred, war, and total annihilation (think Middle Ages) it provided a much needed moral code. Even during the Enlightenment it gave people a valuable basis for their philosophy (remember that "Paradise Lost" thing?).

However, now, in this age of what I like to call New Enlightenment, religion should admit that it's lost its place. Well, it hasn't yet but retreating slowly instead of going more fanatic would surely help to evade major social disturbances in the future.

I'm not the one to judge Christianity (don't have the proper education for that purpose) and although I'm officialy an Ortodox Christian (albeit from a post-communist country where religion was out of the game till the beginning of the 1990s) I must say I find more comfort in thinking my life is a series of my own decisions rather than a series of (mis)guided choices.

Humanity needs to grow up emotionally. People need to cut loose from the childish need of going to a grown-up after you've been hurt. "Mommy, Jimmie hit me!" "Daddy, Julie stole my toy!" No offense meant, but this whole religion thing is pretty similar to that from my not-so-objective point of view.

SaddenedByAllThis

I believe in Jesus; I love Him dearly. But I have to say that the closer I draw to Him, the less I want to be around most people who call themselves Christians. I don't go to church any more; I'm sick of their constant agenda to convert people. Many people who are hard-hitting zealots are actually doing it to win God's approval, which directly contradicts everything Christ stood for... You *cannot* impress God or win His approval, no matter how hard you try. You will only insult Him in the process. Hell will be chock full of religious zealots who tried to impress God with their fanaticism.

I am not one to stand on street corners with signs that say, "Turn or burn," or, "Whore!" But there is a part of me that is devoted to giving a kind, compassionate, and gentle plea to not take God, or His wrath, lightly. Out of anyone who could be angry at you, almighty God is the LAST person you would want to make angry. His power vastly exceeds even ten billion times the force of the strongest nuclear blast possible. Listen to GOD, and don't be afraid of these hard-headed zealots. God will judge them too...

first of all, not all Christians act like above...in fact i agree with some of you, those people are nothing like Jesus was.

in fact its exactly what he doesn't want us to do. Jesus was friends with the bad dudes, prostitutes, tax collectors, etc.

Also to this comment,
"Christians in the US are no different than the "terrorists" that the christians here want us to hate. They all deserve to go to hell. Keep your worthless beliefs to your retched self! I teach my kids about religious folk. I teach them to never trust them, as they are intolerant murderers. Athiests did not start the republican war, the christian right did, and the christian left is too stupid to do anything about it. All I can say is I'm glad we are loosing. Evil should never be rooted for! I'm rooting for those that just wants to live in harmony."

not ALL Christians are, as you say, 'like terrorists', and even if that were a true statement, it wouldn't be true to EVERY Christian. I don't know where you got the idea that all CHristians want terrorists to burn in hell, and we are definitely not murderers, at least not all of us, and those of us that are, are sinful and thats that....so please dont hate Christians, because we're not all evil, we're not all untrustworthy, and we're not all murderers...please understand

GeeWang

The main issue here, who the h*ll are these people to tell me what to do and what to believe in? Blah Blah Blah. Yeah, that's right, I do not believe in Jesus as G-d!!!!. There is 1 true G-d and it's not Jesus. Live with it.

tj

btw, it really hurts what u people are saying

It's this day in age where religion is more important than anything just because of those who OPPOSE beliefs.
that doesn't mean we want to murder you or convert you...just stop with the hate

sorry if that angered anyone..

Jesus

Listen: Just because there are a few morons doesn't negate the entire religion. Christianity is so far from what is originally was it aint even the same religion. And all atheists who diss christianity are just as oblivious. Atheism is a religion, and its just as dogmatic and asinine.

Anonymous

The only problem with these people is that they are "extremists". It doesn't matter if they are Christians or not.

Isn't Jesus suppose to be about submission and love? Why are these people pushing other people around?

As Jesus said, "Hypocrites".

Brandon

I really don't see a problem with anything these people are saying (or displaying in most cases). None of it is hateful. It is every christian's responsibility to let you know the truth. You choose from that point on. I really don't understand how any of you are offended by this.

Edward

Well Brandon, i wouldnt like people telling me that i am going to hell, and the big problem are the things that those people do.. i dont know, maybe they just want to help but their actions .. dont look like that, and are doing the opposite.
I believe in Jesus but every christian should respect people beliefs too

LMahdi

The only religion that negates any God-man is ISLAM.
They whip people if they pray to Mohamed's Grave, by his wish. They don't in anyway Draw God or his prophetes men or woman (Mary the mother of Jesus) to prevent such devious traditions which led the christians to be so much influenced by the Romans in Statues and drawings of Jesus and Mary-- Idolatry.
Jesus himself says in the Timeless Quran in the day of Judjement that he never told his followers to worship him, but only worship God who is neither a man nor a woman. How hard is that to conceive?

It is this very Christian mistake that so many Right minded people have been led to reject it and call tthemselves atheists.

Are you an Atheist or do you just not believe in christianity?

Don't get me started about the tarnished image that the American( christian ) Media gives to Islam by what few extremists have done.

The purpose of Islam is to live peacefully and coexist with other religions or beliefs in this life. The next life is all up to you to believe in, it is a personal choice.

Most of all, there IS NOT any original Sin that we are born with. I don't carry the sins of a person I didn't even see. I am only liable of what I do, this is called the Self.

Alex

The only in America thing is just dumb. In basically anyother country religion would rule, they wouldn't need to say return to Christ.

Jennifer

I totally have to agree with what TJ said, "Just because there are a few morons doesn't negate the entire religion... Atheism is a religion, and its just as dogmatic and asinine." I'm a Christian, but far from a crazy fanatic. When I see such hateful ridiculous statements as the one posted by the gentleman who said he teaches his kids about religious folk and how they are all intolerant murderers... I think that guy is just as pathetic and intolerant as the people he is judging. Sorry to tell you, but that is not teaching your kids to just "live in harmony". It is teaching them to hate, judge, and stereotype.

davin

I'd still rather burn in hell for all eternity than spend five minutes in heaven with those crazy smelly bible thumpers.

John

These guys remind of me of Radical Islamists.

Kevin

Can a person learn about the ways of Islam simply by watching the news? No. Nobody cares about all of the millions of peaceful Muslims. Everyone only sees the ones who cause problems…because that’s what they want to see.

In the same way, you cannot learn about Christianity by looking at these images. You don't see the ones who pull teeth for people in terrible pain in Peru who can't go to a dentist because they don't have money. I have. You don't see the ones who go to homeless shelters and feed the hungry, and you certainly don't see the ones who build orphanages for kids who's parents aren't responsible enough to care for them, or who have been killed by the drug industry. I have. You don’t see this because you don’t care because you don’t find it interesting. A true Christian will put Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to shame.

It's too bad that the only Christians that the American public sees are the ones who don't truly understand Christianity. Specifically, the Westboro Baptist Church ignores most of the teachings of the Bible. It's also too bad that some of the people who aren't Christians like to make blanket statements about a subject they know very little about. I defy them to, instead of looking at the cover of Christianity, go out and try to find out what it's all about, because what they’ve seen so far isn’t it. I do not in any way agree with the messages in these pictures, and I am a Christian.

“What a sack of crap. Only fear-based morons buy into this crap. I think they call them Sheeple. Sheep + People.”

On the contrary, only people who are fearless would go to a prison and try to help addicts get out of their addictions. I know people who do. Only the fearless would fly small planes into remote areas of the earth to deliver vital medical supplies to help people who are sick and have next to nothing. My friend’s dad died doing this. Only the fearless would go to Africa to help AIDS patients die peacefully and painlessly. I know people who have. Only the fearless would spend a year teaching in a third world country. I personally know dozens of people who have. This all in name of God. Do you hate Christians now? Does this sound so terrible? Are these atrocities un-Christlike?

I dare you to experience it like I have. You won’t see anything the same way. You don’t get it until you do it. In many cases Christians don’t get it either. You don’t show signs of understanding, so don’t think that you do. Thanks.

God is here for us. Im not some strict little bible-waver. I havent even read the bible. But I believe in God, and Jesus. I think he will fogive s. He is forgiving, Love in unconditional. That's my opinion. The rest is your choice.

Dude

To see it in person...that "Hell is Real" billboard is about 30 minutes south of Columbus Ohio on Interstate 71.

the Mad Artist

No wonder the Bible is being laughed at; most think these people understand it!!!

Hell=the Grave (Heb/Grk)

Heina

Atheism is a lack of belief, not a belief. There's no dogma, no set code, no holy text, or supernatural beliefs.

Oh, and in response
"The purpose of Islam is to live peacefully and coexist with other religions or beliefs in this life. The next life is all up to you to believe in, it is a personal choice."
People born into Islam don't get a choice. The punishment is death for those who are born Muslim then turn away.

Tanja Short

Kind of bizarre to see a kid to make a religious joke in front of a crazy fanatic.

This kid should go away to find a better pal.

bd

Left-wing looney idiots like to point to right wing idiots/zealots and pretend that all conservatives and Christians are idiots/zealots. We're not! Of course, ALL liberals are hateful, cowardly baby killing idealogues. But we conservatives are a diverse group, most of us nothing like the people in these pictures. The reason I know this is that intelligent conservatives will disavow right wing loonies, but liberals won't say a word against truthers, America haters, and other scoundrels.

Kelly in MI

Regarding #1, it is but it's nothing to be afraid of. It's in Michigan, they have ice cream, and T-shirts.

Skippy McDoolittle

I hate religious freaks. They are crazy as hell and make life miserable for all that are around them.
